Faculty of Engineering and Architecture

Our faculty was established as Eskisehir State Academy of Engineering and Architecture then Departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering started education with a total of 160 students in 1970.

In 1982, it was attached to Anadolu University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture by the Higher Education Act 2547 then continued education on Bademlik campus.

On August 18, 1993 Medicine, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the health-related structure of vocational schools are transferred to newly established Osmangazi University by the decree law no. 496 that was published in the Official Gazette no. 21672.

Our university got the name of “Eskisehir Osmangazi University” with the Law no. 5379 dated July 1, 2005.

Department of Architecture is active on Bademlik Campus, all other departments of the faculty are active on Meselik Campus.

The faculty has 10 active departments;

 

  •  6 departments started education before 1980,
  •  2 departments started education before 1990 and
  •  2 departments started education before 2000.

Evening education program is also available for 5 departments.

 

Education in the departments of;

  •  Electrical and Electronics Engineering is 100% in English
  •  Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture is in 30% in English.

 

The main purpose of Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture is to train engineers and architects who are compotent in their fields, practical-minded, creative and therefore favored by the business community. The faculty is a well established organization which has been providing qualified engineering education since it was established.

The faculty has a considerable place among our country’s faculties of engineering and architecture in terms of qualified faculty members and has a strong academic staff.

By the end of April 2013, the faculty has 51 Professors, 23 Associate Professors, 70 Assistant Professors, a total of 144 faculty members. Together with the 12 lecturers ( 5 of them are Assistant Professors), 69 Research Assistants and 1 specialist, 228 instructors are on duty. The faculty is in the top ten of Turkey in terms of number of instructors.

More than 60 vocational laboratories besides common physics and chemistry laboratories are available in the faculty.

MÜDEK, Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs’s mission is to contribute to enhancing the quality of engineering education in Turkey by means of the accreditation and evaluation of and providing information services for engineering education programs in different disciplines. Thus, MÜDEK aims at graduating better educated and qualified engineers in order to advance the welfare of the society.

 

MÜDEK is authorizded by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) for accreditation of education programs. The Accreditation system stipulates qualified graduates and proof of provided abilities about 11 subjects such as;

·       Ability to design of a complex system, process or product to meet specific requirements and for that purpose ability to apply  modern design methods.

·       Ability to develop, select and use modern techniques and tools.

·       Ability to use Information Technologies effectively.

·       Ability to work effectively individual, in intra-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary teams.

 

For the first time, in 2009, Department of Chemical Engineering regulated its curriculum and processes to meet MÜDEK’s accreditation requirements and accredited for 2 years, beginning from from September 2010 until September 2012.

In our faculty following departments prepared in accordance with MÜDEK’s Engineering Undergraduate Programs Evaluation Criteria,  for application of 2011.

  •  Department of Computer Engineering (Regular Education)
  •  Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering ( Regular and Evening Education)
  •  Department of Industrial Engineering (Regular and Evening Education)
  •  Department of Chemical Engineering (Regular Education)(Midterm Evaluation)

According to the results of supervision that was performed on 18-20 December 2011;

  •  Department od Chemical Engineering’s earlier accreditation has been expanded for a period of 3 years until 30 September 2015. This program was also given EUR-ACElabel that is valid for 3 years.
  •  Department of Computer Engineering (Regular Education), Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering ( Regular and Evening Education) and Department of Industrial Engineering (Regular and Evening Education) accredited for 2 years,beginning from 1 May 2012 until 30 September 2014. This program was also givenEUR-ACE label that is valid for 3 years.

Graduates of the faculty can work freelance in their fields, they can also work as engineers in the public and private sector, in addition they can pursue an academic career.

 

Socıal Elective Courses

1. General Information

Social Elective Courses don’t belong to any department. Students from all departments can enroll these courses through deanery. They don’t teach any particular ability or method but they aim to make students gain different viewpoints and raise their knowledge about their interests. Social Elective Courses are not compulsory subjects. They are programmed and applied for at least two semesters.

 

2. Earned Degree

Courses aim to raise students’ knowledge about particular subjects. They are non-credit courses and they don’t contribute to evaluation of graduation.

5. Recognition of Prior Learning.

Formal recognition of prior learning at Turkish higher education institutions, vertical, lateral and intra-university transfers are accomplished within the scope of  “REGULATIONS REGARDING ON THE BASIS OF TRANSITION BETWEEN ASSOCIATE DEGREE AND BACHELOR DEGREE PROGRAMS, DOUBLE MAJOR, MINOR PROGRAMS AND INTERINSTITUTIONAL CREDIT TRANSFERS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS. ”

At the beginning of each academic year in Turkey exemption exams are made for some computer and foreign language courses within the scope of recognition of  certificate-based or experience-based learning. Students who pass the exam are exempt from the relevant course.
