1. General Information
The Department of Psychiatry was founded in 1977 by Dr. Tayyar GÜRKAN and Dr. Gülsen. It started its activities with the founding of CAN. The Head of the Department was Prof. Dr. Durmuş TEKİN between 1983 and 1993, and Prof. Dr. Cem KAPTANOĞLU between 1993 and 2010. In addition, Prof. Dr. Psk. Gülten SEBER made significant contributions during his tenure between 1981 and 2010.
The Department of Psychiatry has a closed ward with 23 beds on the 10th floor of the Medical Faculty Hospital. The ward includes an Emergency Patient Admission Room, an ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) Room, a Music Broadcasting Room, a Book Room, an Occupation Hall, a Rest Room, a Meeting Hall, and three interview rooms.
There are two general psychiatry outpatient clinics in the Psychiatry Department outpatient clinic unit. In addition to outpatient treatment programs for mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, alcohol-substance addiction, and sexual dysfunction, services are provided in the fields of community psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry. In addition to psychoanalysis and cultural studies, psychodynamic psychotherapy, supportive psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, sexual therapies, and family-partner therapies are applied. The one-way mirror room in our outpatient clinic unit is used to educate and supervise assistants and students .
In the psychology laboratory, intelligence, personality, projective, and neuropsychological tests are applied to support diagnosis, treatment, and research. In addition, relaxation exercises and anger management training are provided within the framework of cognitive-behavioral techniques. Counseling services are provided for adults.
Our department faculty members teach courses in behavioral sciences, communication skills, mental health, and diseases to first, third, fifth, and sixth-year students of the Faculty of Medicine.
In our department, various scientific researches are conducted in the field of mental health and diseases, and meetings and courses are organized. In addition, mental rehabilitation studies for chronic patients are carried out within the framework of the community psychiatry unit and the "Little House" project.

5. Recognition of Prior Learning
In Turkish higher education institutions, recognition of prior formal learning, vertical, horizontal and intra-university transfers are carried out within the scope of the "REGULATION ON TRANSITION BETWEEN ASSOCIATE DEGREE AND UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS, DOUBLE MAJOR, MINOR AND INTER-INSTITUTIONAL CREDIT TRANSFER PRINCIPLES" determined by the Council of Higher Education.
6. Qualification Conditions and Rules
The student must have passed all courses in the program and must not have a FF, DZ, or YZ grade. In this program, the student must have at least 90 ECTS credits and a general grade point average of 3.00 out of 4.00.
7. Program Profile (Purpose)
The program aims to train psychologists to become knowledgeable about issues related to Mental Health and Diseases, able to apply knowledge and skills in the field, and able to use cognitive methodology .

1) Will be able to define the problems encountered with an analytical approach and will be able to make and implement decisions for their solution;
2) Will be prone to teamwork and have effective communication skills in professional and social aspects.

10. Transition to Further Studies
Candidates who complete their undergraduate education can study in postgraduate programs in their fields or related fields, provided that they receive a valid score from ALES or equivalent exams and have sufficient knowledge of a foreign language.
