HISTORY
Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGU) is a state University the origin of which dates back to the foundation of the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 1970. These pioneering faculties became the founders of Anadolu University in 1972. These three faculties together with School of Health, Vocational School of Health Services, Institutes of Health Sciences, Metallurgy, Natural and Applied Sciences, then founded Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Institute of Social Sciences formed Eskişehir Osmangazi University on 18 August 1993 with the decree law numbered 496. Afterwards, Sivrihisar Vocational School, Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Theology and Faculty of Education, School of Tourism, Mahmudiye Vocational School, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Art and Design and Eskişehir Vocational School were founded. School of Health and School of Tourism were transformed into Faculties.
ESOGU has now become one of the leading universities with 11 faculties, 4 vocational schools, 5 graduate schools located at 6 different campuses in central Anatolia.
Currently, we have 34.000 students and 1357 well qualified, dynamic teaching and research staff. In the body of ESOGU there are 21 research, development and innovation centres operating in cooperation with state and private institutions and 3 departments under Rectorate.
ADMINISTRATION
The University Administrative Board and the Senate, both presided by the rector, are the two main administrative organs of the University. The agenda is proposed and accepted by votes of members and decisions are taken after discussions made in a democratic way.
STUDENT REPRESENTATION
Student Representatives elected each year can discuss students’ problems. They form the Student Council. Students’ views are represented in the University Administrative Board and the Senate by the President of the Student Council.
