Department Of Midwifery

 

1.General Information

 

   The Department of Midwifery in the Faculty of Health Sciences was first opened as an undergraduate program in the 2000-2001 academic year within the body of Eskişehir Health School and started its education activities in the same year by recruiting students. With the transformation of Eskişehir School of Health into the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2016, the Department of Midwifery continues its education and training activities within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

  The purpose of the midwifery department; to train midwives who can make the impression of mother and newborn during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period, identify deviations from normal and have normal births under their own responsibility, and also use professional midwifery approaches in cases of deviations from normal.

   For this purpose, the students studying in the midwifery department are given theoretical and practical lessons. In Eskişehir, which has adequate hospitals and health units related to women's health and obstetrics, our students have the opportunity to do internships in applied courses.

   In addition to theoretical knowledge and practice in applied courses, the student gains skills through laboratory studies.

  Our graduates who have completed the midwifery department can easily find the opportunity to work in the health sector in all private and public fields related to women's health and obstetrics.

 

2. Degree Earned

 

   Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a bachelor's degree in midwifery.

4. Admission Requirements

 

   For Turkish and foreign students, the general admission requirements determined by ÖSYM are valid for starting the program.

 

5. Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, In-formal, Non-formal)

 

   Recognition of previous formal learning in Turkish Higher Education Institutions is carried out within the scope of "the regulation on the principles of transferring between associate degree and undergraduate programs in higher education institutions, double major, minor and inter-institutional credit transfer" determined by the Higher Education Council. .

   In Turkey, exemption exams are held at the beginning of each academic term for some computer and foreign language courses within the scope of recognition of certificate-based or experience-based learning outside of formal education institutions. Students who pass the exam and pass the exam are exempted from the relevant courses in the curriculum.

 

6. Qualification Requirements and Rules

 

   The student must have passed all the courses in the program and must not have an FF, DZ or YZ grade. In this program, the student must provide a minimum of 240 ECTS credits and a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

 

7.Program Profile (Purpose)

 

   Students studying in the midwifery department;

 

• Making the necessary examination by making the diagnosis of pregnancy, monitoring and caring for the mother and fetus before birth,

• Caring for the mother at the time of birth, monitoring the fetus and determining the deviations from the normal,

• Having normal births, performing episiotomy when necessary,

• Having breech delivery in emergency situations,

• Identifying the abnormal conditions in the mother and newborn, manually removing the placenta and controlling the uterus when necessary,

• Caring and monitoring the newborn,

• Caring and monitoring the mother in the postpartum period, referring her in risky situations,

• Caring for pathological cases in the field of gynecology and obstetrics,

• Participating in family planning practices,

• It is aimed to graduate as midwives who can care for internal and surgical problems during pregnancy.

 

8. Program Qualifications

 

• Students who graduated from the midwifery department;

• Can perform prenatal follow-up (pregnancy follow-up).

• Can manage Normal Birth.

• In the absence of a doctor, breech deliveries can be made.

• Can perform episiotomy when necessary.

• It can follow up the mother after birth.

• Able to follow up and care for the newborn baby.

• Carry out consultancy and training services related to maternal and newborn care.

• In emergencies, appropriate interventions can be made regarding the mother and newborn.

• It can provide mother-child health and family planning services.

• It takes part in immunization and 0-6 age child care and follow-up, infectious disease control programs within the scope of primary health care services.

• Necessary training that can be met with midwifery practices in order to increase and protect women's, family and community health; plans, implements, evaluates, supervises and manages when necessary.

• May take part in hospital management related to midwifery.

 

9. Employment Opportunities of Graduates

 

   Midwives who graduated from our department;

 

• In the relevant departments of all public and private health institutions,

• Community health, family health, mother-child health and family planning centers,

• They can work in the midwifery department of the relevant faculties or colleges in universities.

 

10. Transition to The Upper Level Programs

 

   Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in graduate programs in related institutes and departments, provided that they get valid scores from ALES or equivalent exams and have sufficient foreign language knowledge.

 

11.Exams, Assessment and Evaluation

 

   The method of measurement and evaluation applied for each course is described in detail in the "Course Information Form".

 

12. Graduation Requirements

 

   Successfully completing all the courses available in the program (for a total of 240 ECTS) has a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 2.00-4.00;

 

   Performing at least 100 prenatal checkups

 

• Follow up at least 40 pregnancies

• 40 spontaneous births

• Assisting with 1 or 2 breech births

• Follow up 40 risky pregnant women

• Follow-up of mothers after 40 births

• Follow-up of 40 newborns

• Follow-up of 20 high-risk newborns is a graduation requirement.

15. Facilities of Department or Program

 

   In the midwifery department, 2 Professors, 4 Doctors and 3 Research Assistants, academic staff work, there is no administrative staff in the department.

   Educational services of the department are given in the Faculty of Health Sciences building on the Meşelik Campus campus.

   There are 3 offices and 4 classrooms in the midwifery department, and there is a skill practice laboratory belonging to the Midwifery and Nursing department. Fixed barcovision is available in all classrooms. There are birth models and medical models used for teaching skills of the department. In addition, there is a multi-purpose seminar hall, computer laboratory and student canteen used in common with other departments.
