Animal science is a branch of science that aims to economically increase the products qualitatively and quantitatively in animal production in agricultural activity. It gives theoretical and practical undergraduate and Master of Science educations in the fields of animal rearing, animal breeding, animal feeding and health protection.
The department was founded in 2010 and has employed a professor and an assistant professor. The Animal Science has three sub-programs: Animal Breeding; Biometry and Genetics; Foods and Animal Feeding. Department of Animal Science started graduate education in 2011-2012 educational years.
Students successfully completed the program will be awarded with a Graduate level Diploma of Agricultural Engineer as an Animal Scientist.
Graduate level
Students are accepted for the program within the framework of master's degree program with a thesis. These guidelines are published each academic year in the student’s book.
Bachelor's degree is required. In the beginning of each academic year, students who got some graduate courses from institute may claim exemption. Upon application of the student, the application is discussed in the department and decision shall be taken in the board of the institute.
Students in the graduate program must register and successfully complete at least seven courses with the condition of not less than 21 credits in total, plus one seminar course, specialization field course and thesis course . Master's degree study program consists of compulsory and elective courses. The program’s total ECTS is 120. The seminar and thesis and specialization field courses are non-credit courses and they are evaluated as "successful" or "fail" basis. Overall average grade must be at least 3.00 out of 4.00. The student must register thesis credits latest from the beginning of the third semester and following semesters. A student in the graduate program with a thesis must report the results obtained according to the rules of the institute and the thesis must be defended orally before a jury. After examination, the jury decides to accept, reject or revise the thesis with absolute majority.
Considering animal welfare, the needs and sensitiveness of societies; to provide education at the graduate level in the areas of production, breeding and feeding of economically important animals and to train agricultural engineers who have sufficient knowledge, skills and the universal qualities of the profession and carrying out research to improve the current state of the livestock sector.

Universities, Turkey Ministry of Food Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Turkey Ministry of Forestry and Waterworks, Public or Private Banks, Agricultural credit cooperatives, , Municipalities, Private farms and food factories and so forth. Graduates can also establish their own farms.
Upon successful completion of Master's degree, candidates can study in their own field or related field PhD programs on condition that they have a passing ALES or equivalent examination score and have adequate level of foreign language.

The department is located in Faculty Agricultural Ali Numan Kirac Campus of Eskisehir Osmangazi University. It has been planned to build a poultry research unit in the Campus and a goat and sheep research unit in in Muttalip Village 13,5 km to the campus on Saricakaya road. Feeds and animal nutrition and animal biotechnology laboratories are being planned to be in use in the near future.
