Our department in which traditional and modern methods are used to give knowledge and skills on basic chemistry in courses and laboratories and with the increased number of elective courses it is aimed to ensure that students have a broader perspective. Our students are receiving current academic and vocational basic training in the field of chemistry and following graduation they can work as academic and professional researchers, practitioners in industrial enterprises or educators.
Our academic staffs who have international scientific connections and researches realised many projects supported by ESOGU, TUBITAK and industrial establisments and many of them are still progressing along with graduate programs. Major fields of study:
(i) Ther synthesis and characterisation of new type water-soluble surface active block copolymers,
(ii) Experimental and theoretical studies on some heterocyclic compounds,
(iii) Biotechnological applications of fungal cultures (biosorptions and biotransformations),
(iv) Investigation of inhibiting effects of some organic materials on the corrosion of metals,
(v) Synthesis and investigation the activities of some heterocyclic and heteroaromatic compounds having medical importance,
(vi) Determination of properties of alunite and clay minerals and researches on their applications.
Our department has many award-winning scientific activities in the field of science. Awards won by the department:
Science prize of 2008 by Popular Science Magazine: To Prof. Dr. Vural Bütün for his national and international contributions to the science by Grand Jury of Popular Science Magazine.
Tunç Savaşçı Polymer Science and Technology Award of 2006 : To Prof. Dr. Vural Bütün for his outstanding contributions to polymer science and technology by Polymer Science and Technology Association of Turkey.
PAGEV Plastic Technology 2005 First Prize : Prof. Dr. Vural Bütün was awarded for his project titled as “Synthesis and characterization of a new type schizophrenic ABC triblock copolymer and synthesis of a new type cross-linked miscelles”.
TUBITAK-TWAS Encouragement Award of 2004 : Prof. Dr. Vural Bütün was awarded for his high-quality studies in the field of Chemistry on a new type of water-soluble copolymer and synthesis and characterization of SCL nanospheres by TUBITAK and TWAS.
TÜBA-GEBİP Award of 2004 : Prof. Dr. Vural Bütün was awarded for his high-quality studies of international level on Polymer Chemistry by Academy of Sciences of Turkey.
Upon successful completion of the program students are awarded a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry.
Bachelor of science
The general admission requirements are applied to Turkish and foreign students to join the program.
Recognising of prior learning, vertical, horizontal and inner university transitions in Turkish Higher Education Establishments are realised in the frame of corresponding legal instructions. At the beginning of each academic semester exams of exemption are organized for some computer and foreign language courses in recognition of certificate-based or experience-based learning outside of formal education institutions atTurkey.
Students who take and pass those exams are exempt from the relevant courses in the curriculum.
The students are supposed to pass all the courses in the program and shold not grade FF, DZ or YZ. In this program students must provide a minimum 240 ECTS credits and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2,00 out of 4,00.

Graduates can get jobs in research and development laboratories of several public or private sector establishments in the fields of drug, textile, ceramics, cosmetics and automotive as well as researchers in their branches. Furthermore they can work in educational institutions as chemistry teachers. Our students are offered training opportunities in contemporary and modern conditions at laboratories.
Upon successful completion of undergraduate degree candidates may apply to graduate programs in their field or related fields provided that they have sufficient knowledge of foreign language and adequate score of ALES or equivalent examinations.
Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are defined in detail in “ Course Information Form ”.
As described in the section of "Qualification Requirements and Regulations”.
