Nursing Doctoral Program

1. General Information

In our country, the number of nurses with a doctoral degree is quite limited. However, in the increasingly growing Faculty of Health Sciences, which aims to meet the academic staff needs in the field of nursing, the lack of a sufficient number of faculty members constitutes a significant problem.

The Nursing Doctoral Program aims to train highly productive scholars in terms of scientific output at both national and international levels, who are competent in their field. In this regard, to support knowledge production and enhance the quality of nursing services, the need has arisen to establish a doctoral program within the Department of Nursing at the Institute of Health Sciences, Eskişehir Osmangazi University, in accordance with the relevant legal regulations.

The Nursing Doctoral Program includes a comprehensive education and training process aimed at developing expert academics in the field, covering disciplines such as Fundamentals of Nursing, Internal Diseases Nursing, Surgical Diseases Nursing, Maternal and Women's Health Nursing, Pediatric Health and Diseases Nursing, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, Public Health Nursing, and Nursing Management.

Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a doctorate diploma in the field of nursing.

4.Admission and Enrollment Terms

The general admission requirements in the Eskişehir Osmangazi University Master's Education and Training Regulation apply to both Turkish and foreign students, and the condition of being a graduate of the nursing undergraduate program is valid for starting the program.

 

To apply for the Nursing Doctoral Program, it is required to have a bachelor's degree in Nursing and to have completed a master's degree in a program related to Nursing or any nursing-related field (Fundamentals of Nursing, Internal Diseases Nursing, Surgical Diseases Nursing, Maternal and Women's Health Nursing, Pediatric Health and Diseases Nursing, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, Public Health Nursing, and Nursing Management).

5. Recognition of Former Education

The recognition of previous formal education in Turkish higher education institutions, including vertical, horizontal, and intra-university transitions, is carried out according to the Eskişehir Osmangazi University Graduate Education and Training Regulation.

6.   Competency Requirements and Terms

The doctoral program consists of at least eight courses, a qualification exam, a thesis proposal, and thesis work, with a total of no less than 24 credits for students holding a master's degree. The qualification exam, thesis proposal, and thesis work are non-credit and are evaluated as either pass or fail. In addition to the mandatory requirements, other activities related to the education and training of the department must also be completed.

7.Objectives of the Program

•To develop a scientific understanding and transform knowledge in the field of nursing into expertise, possessing comprehensive and contemporary knowledge and skills, as well as the ability to think creatively and critically,

•To be sensitive to the health problems and care needs of individuals, families, and communities at both national and international levels, and to be able to apply community-based, multidisciplinary approaches in nursing for health promotion, development, and solving health problems,

•To access, evaluate, and apply knowledge related to the concepts, principles, and methods of nursing, conduct scientific research, transfer acquired knowledge and skills to practical fields and nursing fundamentals education, and use teaching principles and methods in the nursing field to train scientific experts.

They can work as a specialist nurse in the Ministry of Health, in academic staff positions at national and international higher education institutions, in private healthcare institutions, and in university hospitals.

15. Department/Program Opportunities

There are 16 faculty members in the Nursing Department, including 5 Professors, 7 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professor; there are 5 faculty members, including 1 Lecturer and 4 Research Assistants.

Faculty of Health Sciences has 8 classrooms on 580 m² with a total capacity of 450 students, 2 lecture halls on 230 m² with a total capacity of 220 students, 3 vocational skills laboratories on 125 m² with a total capacity of 70 students, 31 m² with a total capacity of 24 students. There is 1 computer laboratory, 1 social space of 77 m².
