Occupational Health and Safety (Non-Thesis MSc)

1. General Information

Occupational health and safety, which is mainly concerned with occupational accidents and occupational diseases, aims to ensure the health of workers and to continue their work in safe environments and conditions, is a science that has gained importance in developed countries. Work on occupational health and safety in our country is increasing with the effect of legal regulations. Businesses operating in all working areas, especially industrial enterprises, have to take the measures and regulations required for the occupational safety. In order to provide in-depth information to undergraduate graduates who wish to study in this field or to do so, an interdisciplinary "Occupational Health and Safety Non-thesis Master Program"  was opened by the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.To be eligible for Occupational Safety Specialist by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security gradutates of the;

-              Engineering and Architecture Departments of Faculties of Engineering and Architecture,

-              Physics, Chemistry and Biology Departments of Faculty of Arts and Sciences,

-              Departments of Technology Faculties

-              Departments of Faculty of Agriculture

will be able to apply.In the program, there are 2 compulsory and 8 elective courses, 3 hours each (6 ECTS), 10 courses and 2 hours (Non-Credit) ?Term Project? (30 ECTS) courses. Due to the second graduate program (evening school), taking into account the working students, in the program lessons starts at the earliest 17:00.

6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The non-thesis MSc  program consists of minimum 10 courses and a Term Project. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program, 60 ECTS credits of course work and 30 ECTS credits of Term Project must be taken. The grade of each course must be at least CC, and the cumulative grade point average  (CGPA) must be at least 2.5/4.0.

9. Graduates Employment Opportunities

AUTHORITY, RESPONSIBILITY AND TRAINING OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY EXPERTS" article 8b.2 , they are entitled to enter the exam to be carried out for occupational safety expertise (B) class. In this way, it becomes easier to work safety experts in enterprises.

 11. Examinations, Measurement and Evaluation

Evaluation and assesment methods for each course are determined  by the course instructor and announced in the beginning of the term. The relevant information is described in the Course Information Form of each course. Grades/success evalutions of courses are conducted according to the ESOGU-GER.

12. Graduation Requirements

This program consists of minimum 10 courses and a Term Project. The total required credit is at least 90 ECTS. The maximum completion time for this program is three terms.

15. Department / Program Opportunities

The program is carried out by interdisciplinary cooperation. The program has been formed in collaboration with:

-              Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering and Chemical Engineering)

-              Faculty of Medicine (Faculty of Public Health, Department of Family Medicine and Physiology) and Faculty of Health Sciences

and faculty members from these departments are involved. At least one faculty member deals with occupational health and safety in almost all departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Currently, program courses are carried out in a classroom in the Industrial Engineering Department but he instructor who teaches a lesson can also teach in his / her own department. Some protectors are provided for educational purposes and it is foreseen that some important devices such as gas, dust, noise meters will be used in the Term Project course of the students.
