Rail Systems (Non-Thesis MSc)

1. General Information

The rail systems in the world and in Turkey are expanding steadily.  As the railroads expand, the demand for the Rolling stock increases, too. Expansion of the lines and production of the Rolling stock will require employment of the expert manpower.  Current educational programs in Turkey do not have the capacity to meet this demand. The rail systems graduate was initiated at Eskişehir Osmangazi University to contribute to meet this demand. With this program, the Rail Systems Test and Certification Center in Eskişehir will be supported, too.With the graduate program, it will contribute to the development of the rail systems by training engineers for the companies such as TULOMSAS.This is an interdisciplinary program. It is founded under the administration of the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences.  Faculty members from the Electrical-Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Metallurgical, Industrial, and Computer Engineering and other departments take part in the program.  Courses offered by these departments can be included in the program. The Rail Systems graduate program has two main branches:  Engineering and Management.

6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The non-thesis MSc  program consists of minimum 10 courses and a Term Project. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program, 60 ECTS credits of course work and 30 ECTS credits of Term Project must be taken. The grade of each course must be at least CC, and the cumulative grade point average  (CGPA) must be at least 2.5/4.0.

9. Graduates Employment Opportunities

The graduates of the Rail Systems Master?s degree program can be employed by state and private establishments in the planning, construction, operation and maintenance of Rail Systems. Rolling stock design and production, depot design and operation, track electrification, track inspection and testing and alike are also among the employment fields.

 11. Examinations, Measurement and Evaluation

Evaluation and assesment methods for each course are determined  by the course instructor and announced in the beginning of the term. The relevant information is described in the Course Information Form of each course. Grades/success evalutions of courses are conducted according to the ESOGU-GER.

 

12. Graduation Requirements

This program consists of minimum 10 courses and a Term Project. The total required credit is at least 90 ECTS. The maximum completion time for this program is three terms..

15. Department / Program Opportunities

The Rail Systems program is a multidisciplinary program.  Faculty members from Electrical-Electronics, Computer, Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy and Materials, and Industrial Engineering Departments take part in the program. The laboratories, lecture rooms and other facilities in these departments are also available for the Rail System program.

In addition to this, a local locomotive and engine factory TULOMSAS supports the program with its facilities and experts. The Training Center for the state railroad company TCDD in Eskişehir and the National Rail System Testing and Certification Center (under construction) of Anadolu University will support the program.

The Rail Systems graduate program is a multidisciplinary program; hence, it has no permanent faculty member positions. The program director is appointed among the faculty members participating in the program. Here is a partial list of faculty members participating in the program:
