Soil Science and Plant Nutrition (MSc)

1. General Information

Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Department Master's (MA) program was opened in June 2015. Master's education started in February 2016. Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Department still has two Professors, an Assistant Professor, and a Research Assistant on duty.

Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Program consists of the Soil and Plant Nutrition departments. Main courses given in the section of the Soil Science Department include soil characterization, soil survey and mapping, soil conservation, soil-plant-water relationships, soil problems (salinity alkalinity, degradation, soil pollution, etc.) and soil reclamation and remediation, in the level of graduate education. In the department of Plant Nutrition, students are informed and provided with the experience about plant nutrition and fertilization, soil and plant fertility and experimental designing at the level of graduate education.

In the Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, projects are produced for the existing problems of soil and plant production at the national and international levels and their solutions are worked on. The department also offers its students the opportunity to study and do internships at internationally contracted universities.

6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The MSc program consists of minimum of seven courses, a seminar course, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program, minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 60 ECTS credit thesis study must be completed. The letter grade of the courses must be at least CC, and the cumulative grade ponit average (CGPA) must be at least 3.0/4.0..

9. Graduates Employment Opportunities

Graduates find working opportunities at public institutions and organizations (e.g. T. C. Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, State Hydraulic Works, Ministry of environment and urbanization, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Universities,), and also private sectors (fertilizer factories, soil and plant analysis laboratories, land consolidation companies, pesticide, seed and fertilizer distributors and companies, agriculture enterprises, agricultural consultancy, etc.).

11. Examinations, Measurement and Evaluation

Evaluation and assesment methods for each course are determined  by the course instructor and announced in the beginning of the term. The relevant information is described in the Course Information Form of each course. Grades/success evalutions of courses are conducted according to the ESOGU-GER.

12. Graduation Requirements

The MSc program consists of minimum seven courses, a seminar course, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, minimum of 60 ECTS credits of course work and 60 ECTS credit  thesis study must be taken.

The MSc program is four semesters and the maximum completion period is six semesters.

To graduate from the program, the student must write their  thesis according to the Thesis Writing Guide determined by the Graduate School and succesfully defend in front of jury.

15. Department / Program Opportunities

The Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Department has a Plant Nutrition and Soil Fertility Laboratory equipped with tools and equipment to analyze soil, plant, water, fertilizer and environmental waste. In addition, there is a plant growing room with controlled environmental conditions (light, temperature, humidity, etc.) in the department, where scientific studies are carried out and students can conduct their thesis research.
