  1. General Information

Number of midwives having graduate certificate is extremely little in our country. In the midwifery, the number of intructors is also inadequate although  number of Health Colleges and Faculties of Health Sciences increase to meet need of midwifes.

Institute of Health Sciences has midwifery graduate program in Department of Midwifery.  Eskişehir Faculty of Health Sciences which has graduate education in Department of Midwifery is among the prominent higher education institutes.

It was decided at the general meeting dated 15.08.2013 and numbered 75850160-104.01.04.6213 of Higher Education Board (YÖK) to open a graduate program of Midwifery Department in Eskişehir Osmangazi University Institute of Health Sciences. Associate Professor Doctor Nebahat Özerdoğan  from Eskişehir Health High School Department of Midwifery  was assigned as head of department on May 13,2014. There are three founder department members from Eskişehir Health High School Department of Midwifery.

The certificate of graduate is given to the students who complete the program successfully in the midwifery.

Master degree

4. Acceptance and Registration

General acceptance conditions in the Education and Teaching Regulations of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Graduate and graduating from department of midwifery are enough to start the program for Turkish and foreign students.

5. Validity of Former Teaching

Depending on the former teaching in the Turkish Higher Education institutes, transitions which are vertical, horizontal and within the university have been performed according to Eskişehir Osmangazi University Graduate Education and Teaching Regulations.

6. Qualification conditions

Graduate program has at least 7 classes on condition of minimum total 21 credits, other learning activities, thesis suggestion, thesis studying, seminar and expertise speciality class. Thesis studying, seminar and expertise speciality classes are evaluated as adequate/inadequate. Total credits of compulsory classes can not be less than 21.

The other activities related to education and teaching of the department need to be also  peformed except compulsory conditions.

7. Aim of program

1.      It is aimed to bring up a scientist who gained scientific understanding, can convert her/his midwifery information to practice,  and has comprehensive and contemporary information and ability, creative and critical thinking skills,

2.      is sensitive against health problems and care needs of individual, family and society at national and international levels; can use the community-supported, multydisciplinary approached methods related to protection and development of health and solution of health problems in the midwifery,

3.      can access to information about concept, principles and methods of midwifery, evaluate these information, conduct scientific research, transfer her/his information and abilities to practicable area and teaching of midwifery principles, and use teaching principles and methods in the nursing area.

8. Program Competences (Learning Outcomes)

Our graduates can;

1.Plan a seacrh independently and practice it, evaluate the results obtained and supply it to humanity’s benefit,

2.Work at management and adminitrative tasks related to midwifery,

3.Determine the requirements of individual, family and society related to health which will be able to meet with midwifery initiatives in every environment,

4.Plan the midwifery care in the frame of the needs defined during midwifery diagnostics,

5.Perform midwifery care, control and evaluate it,

6.Determine the education needs related to patient’s and helathy person’s health area,

7.Prepare an education plan according to the needs identified,

8.Practice the education planned, and evaluate the results,

9.Perform the treatment given in written except emergencies,

10. Perform the tasks in the regulations put into effect about family doctor practice.

9. Employment Opportunities for Graduates

They can work as a midwife in Ministry of Health, as an academic personel in national and international higher education institutes, and as a professional midwife in special health institutes.

10. Access to Degree Program

Candidates completing graduate successfully can study PhD programs in their or related specialitis on condition of getting adequate points from ALES or equivalent exams and knowing a foreign language in a sufficient level.

Type of assesment and evaluation for every class has been defined in details in “Class Information Form”.

These conditions are as defined in the 6th section “Qualification Conditions”.

15. Department/Program Facilities

There are 2 associate professors, 1 assistant professor and 5 research assistants in the Department of Midwifery. Eskişehir Faculty of Health Sciences has 8 classrooms having a capacity of 450 students with 580 square meters in total, 2 lectures having a capacity of 220 students with 230 square meters in total,  3 vocational skill labs having a capacity of 70 students with 125 square meters in total, 1 computer lab having a capacity of 24 students with 31 square meters in total, and 1 social space with 77 square meters.
