Department of International Relations

1-General Information

Department of International Relations at Eskisehir Osmangazi University has a young, promising and aspired academic staff. Since 2007-2008 academic year, when our first students were enrolled, our department has gradually strengthened its staff with new professors and research assistants. Now, our department enjoys 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, 1 Lecturer and 5 Research Assistants. Our professors concluded their graduate education in major European and American universities and were specialized on various areas of International Relations discipline. Therefore, our department offers courses ranging from IR theory to Turkish Politics, and from the Middle Eastern and the Central Asian Politics to the European Union issues, most of which are taught in English. In addition, instructors from other departments of the faculty teach courses in our department.

Our students have a good command of English and a comprehension of current international issues. They are not only encouraged to advance their knowledge on those issues, but also to learn a second foreign language. They regularly organize seminars and workshops concerning various topics of International Relations. Our university and library were endowed with sufficient means for the requirements of students. As city is close to the capital of Turkey, Ankara, and a metropolis, Istanbul, students have opportunities to participate in national and international conferences and events. They also have chance to quick access to the headquarters of international organizations and public offices in order to obtain internships.

 

2-Degree Earned

Master’s Degree in International Relations is given to students who successfully complete the program. Graduates department of International Relations is the title of Master of Science in International Relations.

Admission Requirements

All faculty and a four-year college graduates can apply for Master’s Degree Program in International Relations. For graduates of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and other faculties 20,  fr other faculties and colleges 10 quota allocated. Graduates from different faculty’s students who did not receive an adequate level course in economics are subject to 2 semester’s academic preparation program.

 

4-Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior non-formal learning in the Turkish higher education institutions vertical, horizontal and transitions within the university is determined by the Board of Higher Education is made under “SWITCHING BETWEEN SHORT AND UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS OF HIGHER EDUCATİON INSTITUTIONS, DOUBLE MAJOR, MINOR AND CREDIT TRANSFER BETWEEN CORPORATE ACTION ON BASIS OF REGULATION”.

 

5-Rules and Provisions for Qualification

It is required that the student has successfully completed all courses without having FF, DZ or YZ grades. In this program, it is required that the student has minimum 120 ECTS credits and cumulative GPA to be at least 2,00 out of 4,00.

 

6-Program Profile (Objectives)

Master's Degree Program Objectives;

·       In our department providing a better level of scientific and research activities that the primary tasks of universities.

·       Addressing the needs of people who desire to specialize in areas of International Relations,

·       Training academic staff needed with the growth of the department and other related departments of universities,

·       Transferring the experience gained in graduate study in the department to doctoral program,

Performing these purposes, scientific and technological developments in the world and in our country, the basic economic problems in the country and the world agenda is closely monitored by the department members. To reflect these developments to students, the department members opening new courses in their areas of expertise and identifying thesis, seminar and project topics.

The structure of academic staff has a qualification in made ??necessary changes in matter of curriculum and research correspondingly changing country and world conditions and recent trends and developments in our field.

 

7-Program Competencies (Learning Outcomes)

- to equip our students with ability and knowledge to study and/or work in international arena.

-  to teach students analytical thinking and problem-solving.

-  to encourage our students for social and academic activities.

- to support and promote students to participate in conferences, workshops, events such as Model UN and Erasmus Program.

 

8-Employment Opportunities for Graduates

The students have opportunities to participate in national and international conferences and events. They also have chance to quick access to the headquarters of international organizations and public offices in order to obtain internships.

 

9-Transition to High Level Programs

Candidates who completed master's degree successfully on condition that  taking the ALES score, or equivalent examinations and having adequate level of foreign language knowledge.

 

10-Testing, Measurement and Evaluation                                                

Department of International Relations Master's Degree program consist of a total of 9courses, a seminar course and a lecture on specialized field to take during the thesis work.The seminar course, lecture on specialized field and thesis work are non-credit courses, students evaluate as successful or unsuccessful. To obtain a master's degree students are required to have a total of 27 credits, and complete seminars, lecture on specialized fieldand a thesis work successfully.
