Horse Breeding and Coaching Program

1. General Information

Our school was commissioned on April 2007 in order to educating and training qualified labor force for horse breeding in our country with Horseshoeing and Horse Breeding business programs. Higher Education Council collected all relevant programs under the name of Horse Breeding and Coaching program in 2010.  All efforts and studies of the school focus on the field of horse breeding and relevant sectors. The aim of our program is to enable our student serve for the horse breeding business based on ethical codes at all conditions whatsoever. 

Aim of the Horse Breeding and Coaching program is to fulfill the labor force which has high-order knowledge and follows ethical codes in order to enable the local horse breeding reach higher standards and to fulfill the requirements of horse breeding sector at our country, to graduate students who are heartedly committed themselves to this profession and to enable our graduates to be employed citizens who may conduct studies at all required levels.

We will ensure that our students will have the awareness to serve for the horse breeding business at our country and thus, the vision of our school is to function as a part of horse breeding business at our country to increase efficiency of the local horse breeding business and to enable it reaching the well-deserved economic value worldwide. Our curriculum and programs are arranged to meet professional education needs of the students and to reinforce their experiences and thus, we establish clubs and organize activities to support social and cultural development.

 

2. The Graduation Degree

All students successfully completing the program are granted Associate Diploma in the field of Horse Breeding and Coaching.

 

3. Level of the Educational Status

Two-year degree

 

4. Acceptance and Registration Conditions

General acceptance conditions issued for Turkish and foreign students are adequate to start this program.

 

5. Confirmation of Previous Formal Educations

Confirmation of previous formal education at facilities and institutions affiliated to the Turkish Council of Higher Education as well as vertical, horizontal and intra-university transfers are performed pursuant to the “REGULATION ON PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURES OF VERTICAL TRANSFER BETWEEN ASSOCIATE AND BACHELOR PROGRAMS IN THE HIGHER EDUCATIONS INSTITUTIONS AND DOUBLE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS, SUB-SPECIALTY AND INTER-INSTITUTIONAL CREDIT TRANSFERS”, which is issued by the Council of Higher Education.

Exemption examination is done at the beginning of each academic year for some computer programming and foreign language courses in order to confirm certificate- and experience-based education given by formal education institutions, which operate in Turkey. Students passing this examination are exempted for relevant courses in the curriculum.

 

6. Qualification Conditions and Rules

The student should successfully pass all courses of the program and should not have FF, DZ or YZ marks. For this program, the student should achieve minimum 120 ECTS credits and the grade-point average should be minimum 2.00 over total score of 4.00.  30-day apprenticeship is mandatory.

9. Employment Opportunities for Qraduates

All graduates of our department may undertake duties at all public institutions (General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises), Turkish Jockey Club, Turkish Bequestrian Federation, privately owned stud farms and other privately owned horse breeding enterprises.

Our school had entered into agreements with Turkish Jockey Club, located at Mahmudiye, stud farms affiliated to the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises and 13 privately owned facilities and thus, applied training can be conducted at such organizations. Our school had made agreements on training courses and employment opportunities for students with various horse breeding enterprises which are located at Eskişehir, Istanbul,Bursa, Ankara, İzmir, Balıkesir, Antalya and Şanlıurfa.

 

10. Transfer to 4-Year Programs (Vertical Transfer)

Successfully completing the associate program, the candidates may attend Veterinary Faculties, should they achieve target score in the Vertical Transfer examination.

15. Opportunities Offered

The school has indoor area of 1700 m2 in 3 separate blocks and outdoor area of 14.8 hectares, of which 9.7 hectares are actively used. Theoretical courses of the vocational education program are taught at classrooms equipped with projection devices, at anatomy laboratory, a computer class equipped with 17 computers and a conference hall with capacity of 90 seats. In our vocational library, 178 published resources are hosted.

Applied courses are taught at Horse Care and Training and Application Facility which is located within a field of 9 hectares owned by our school. This facility has indoor area of500 m2, which is designed specifically for vocational education. Four separate applied and theoretical courses can be simultaneously taught. This area involves 10-horse boxes, manger, material maintenance and storage area, solarium and horse washing area, blacksmith and horse foot care area, horse examination and labor area, warehouse, classrooms, showers and rest rooms. The indoor area involves a manege with sand ground (dimensions; 20x40 m), one lunge area, ne stallion paddock (dimensions; 40 x 30 m) and two paddocks, each having mean area of 0.8 hectare.

One training track is designed with total length of 1000 m. The ground marking processes of a track are conducted and this track will be used for training horses, particularly Colt Training.

A dormitory with capacity of 25 beds is offered to meet accommodation needs, while cafeterias equipped with television and game halls, table tennis and billiards serve our students to fulfill social needs.
