Computer Engineering Department

1. General Information

Computer Engineering Department was founded in 1993 as a part of College ofEngineering and Architecture of Eskisehir Osmangazi University. It started to accept students after 2001-2002 academic year.

The instruction in the Department was in English in 2001.  Entering students take a year-long full-time intensive English course if they are not fluent in English before they start taking classes for the B.S. in Computer Engineering degree program. Students can submit TOEFL or other scores. The instruction language has changed at least 35% English course materials with the decision of the council of higher education of Turkey in the beginning of 2010. In the practice, the courses with English materials are more than 70%.

The Department undergraduate curriculum had been prepared to meet ABET criteria since the beginning. There are eight semesters and 18 credit courses are planned for each.

The University is included in Bologna Process in 2005. The computer Engineering department also changed the course credits of the curriculum to be compatible with European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). From 2005, students take courses of 30 ECTS at each semester.

The Continuous Improvement in the department continues from the beginning. In the 2006, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis is carried out as a part of strategic planning. Combining with the key internal and external factors, then program goals and outcomes are determined for the years of 2007-2010.

For a more systematic Continuous Improvement, the MUDEK accreditation application has been filed in 2011. It was granted for the period from May 1, 2012 to September 30, 2017. The accreditation is recognized by EUR-ACE(EURopean ACcreditation of Engineering Programs).

Our department is re-accredited by MÜDEK and EURACE for the period of 2017-2019.

2. The Degree Conferred

The students who complete the program successfully are awarded Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering.

3. Degree Level

4. Admission Requirements

The general admission requirements for the Turkish citizens and foreign students are applicable.

5. Recognition of The Previous Education

Recognition of the previous higher level education is possible in accordance to the regulations issued by the Higher Education Council.  The regulation has the title “YÜKSEKÖĞRETİM KURUMLARINDA ÖNLİSANS VE LİSANS DÜZEYİNDEKİ PROGRAMLAR ARASINDA GEÇİŞ, ÇİFT ANADAL, YAN DAL İLE KURUMLAR ARASI KREDİ TRANSFERİ YAPILMASI ESASLARINA İLİŞKİN YÖNETMELİK—Regulations for the transfer between the undergraduate two-year and four-year degree programs, double major programs, minor programs, and credit transfer between educational institutions.”

For the recognition of learning based on private instruction or personal experience, exemption exams are offered to students for some foreign language and computer courses.  Students who obtain a minimum score are deemed successful for these courses and are exempted from taking such courses.

6. Conditions and Rules for the Degree Qualification

A student must receive a passing grade (AA through DD, or YT) for each course in the program and must not have any FF, DZ or YZ grade for any course he or she has taken. In the program at least 240 ECTS credits and a minimum 2.00 out of 4.00 grade point average are also required. In addition to the coursework, each student is required to do 40 days of practical training.

7. Program Educational Goals
