1. General Information

By the decision of the Council of Higher Education Presidency dated 19.01.2011 and numbered 606, the opening of the Department of Plant Protection was approved in our faculty. The department consists of two main branches: Entomology and Phytopathology. The goal is to ensure that our students become competent, hardworking, dynamic, and quick decision-makers, specializing in the field of Plant Protection, upon graduation. The department conducts research to identify diseases, pests, and weeds in crops in Turkey, especially in the Central Anatolia Region, and implements environmentally friendly integrated pest management methods to prevent yield and quality losses in crops. The aim is to prepare and implement projects related to plant health issues and produce solutions. The department also publishes scientific articles, papers, books, and other forms of publications based on research results in every aspect of plant health. The ultimate goal is to achieve a structure that provides all kinds of education, training, research, and publication services in the scientific fields of its two main branches through national and international relations, conducting projects, participating in scientific meetings, and organizing them.

2. Degree Earned:

Upon successfully completing the program, students are awarded a bachelor's degree in Plant Protection.

3. Degree Level:

Undergraduate

4. Admission and Registration Conditions:

The general admission requirements for Turkish students apply to start the program. The admission and registration procedures for foreign students are carried out according to the Eskişehir Osmangazi University Overseas Student Application, Acceptance, and Registration Directive.

5. Recognition of Prior Learning:

Recognition of prior formal education in Turkish higher education institutions is carried out within the framework of the Regulation on the Principles of Transition, Double Major, Minor, and Transfer of Credits between Associate and Bachelor's Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions determined by the Council of Higher Education. For learning based on certificates or experience outside formal education institutions in Turkey, exemption exams are held for certain computer and foreign language courses at the beginning of each academic semester. Students who take and pass the exam are exempt from the relevant courses in the curriculum.

6. Qualification Conditions and Rules:

The student must successfully complete all courses in the program, with no FF, DZ, or YZ grades. In this program, the student must accumulate a minimum of 240 ECTS credits and have a general grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00. After the 4th semester, the student must successfully complete a 15-day professional internship and thesis, and after the 6th semester, a total of 25 working days, making a total of 40 days.

7. Program Profile (Objective):

The program aims to equip students with the skills to learn fundamental aspects of plant protection, such as the biology, ecology, systematics, and control methods of disease agents, pests, and weeds causing yield loss in crop cultivation. The program emphasizes practical skills in diagnosing and researching diseases, pests, and weeds, conducting analysis in laboratories, and producing results, interpretations, and reports. The goal is to foster research and development activities, contribute to contemporary science and technology in the field, and cultivate competent agricultural engineers specialized in plant protection.

8. Program Competencies (Learning Outcomes):

The program aims to develop competencies such as analytical thinking, effective use of knowledge and technology in plant protection, hypothesis formulation, conducting scientific research projects, converting research results into scientific publications, interdisciplinary application of knowledge, evaluating eco-friendly alternatives in pest control, independent and team-based project management, conducting ethical research, and using knowledge of biosecurity and bioethics in plant protection.

9. Employment Opportunities for Graduates:

Graduates can find employment in various institutions, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, research institutes, agricultural analysis laboratories, seed and agricultural pesticide companies, greenhouse sector, banks, agricultural cooperatives, universities as researchers and lecturers, and private sector organizations focusing on plant protection issues.
