Mechanical Engineering (PhD)

1. General Information

Mechanical Engineering Department was established in 1970 as Eskişehir State Engineering and Architecture Academy. In 1982, engineering departments were transferred to Anadolu University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture where it continued to education and research from 1982 to 1993. At 1993, Anadolu University was split into two universities by law. Our department has continued its activities at Osmangazi University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. In our department has graduated about 2800 Mechanical Engineers in the last 40 years. In the Mechanical Engineering Department, five main branches of science are instated. These branches are Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Energy, Construction and Manufacturing, Machine Theory and Dynamics. About 100 Mechanical Engineers are registered to the Institute of Science and Technology as Master students. New students are added to these students each year. There are 6 Laboratories  (Materials, Heat Technique, Machine Tools, Hydraulic Machines, Motor Vehicles, CAD) in our department. There are 6 Professors, 8 Associate Professors, 7 Assistant Professors, 1 instructor, 5 assistant and 3 Laboratory Technicians in our department.

 6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The PhD program consists of minimum seven courses (compulsory/elective), a seminar course, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 120 ECTS credit thesis study work must be taken. The letter grade of the courses must be at least CB for each course, and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 3.0/4.0.  After the courses are completed, the proficieny exam is conducted to evaluate students' fundamental and field knowledge.

Student who succesfully passes the proficiency exam presents the thesis proposal to the Thesis Committee. According to the ESOGÜ-GER, after the thesis proposal is accepted, the student must submit and defend Thesis Progression Report to the Thesis Committee, once every 6 month. In thesis study period, the student must  submit at least 3 reports and succesfully defend them.  At the end of thesis study, the student  must take the thesis defend examination.
