Aviation Science And Technology (Phd)

1. General Information

Eskişehir Osmangazi University Aeronautical Engineering Department was established within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture with its approval at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting on 31 December 2019. ESOGU Aeronautical Engineering Department aims to train engineers with sufficient knowledge to work in the design, manufacture, maintenance, repair of military and civil aircraft and aviation businesses, and to carry out research and application studies related to aircraft and aviation. The Department of Aeronautical Engineering provides 100% English education within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Every day, dynamic and expert personnel are joining the department staff. Due to the pandemic affecting the whole world, ESOGU Aeronautical Engineering Department has had to postpone the student registration process to the 2021-2022 Academic Year.

 

Aviation Science and Technology Graduate program is an interdisciplinary program for graduate and doctorate students, with both academic and graduate infrastructure of the university, such as the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, EMYO, and the Faculty of Science. In addition, Eskişehir Technical University, TEI/TUSAŞ and 1st AIR MAINTENANCE FACTORY DIRECTORATE staff also support our program as teaching staff.

 

Graduates from Master's and Doctorate programs are given every year as Aviation Science and Technology Department. While we have graduates working in the private and public sectors within the country, we also have graduates working in other countries.

 6. Qualification Requirements and Regulations

 The PhD program consists of minimum seven courses (compulsory/elective), a seminar course, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, to graduate from the program minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 120 ECTS credit thesis study work must be taken. The letter grade of the courses must be at least CB for each course, and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 3.0/4.0.  After the courses are completed, the proficieny exam is conducted to evaluate students' fundamental and field knowledge.

Student who succesfully passes the proficiency exam presents the thesis proposal to the Thesis Committee. According to the ESOGÜ-GER, after the thesis proposal is accepted, the student must submit and defend Thesis Progression Report to the Thesis Committee, once every 6 month. In thesis study period, the student must  submit at least 3 reports and succesfully defend them.  At the end of thesis study, the student  must take the thesis defend examination. To graduate from the program, the student must  succesfully defend the thesis that was written according to the Thesis Writing Guide.

Our graduates from the Department of Aviation Science and Technologies can work in public and private sector organizations in the defense industry, and those who graduate with a doctorate degree can work as faculty members in various universities.

11. Examinations, Measurement and Evaluation

             Evaluation and assesment methods for each course are determined by the course instructor and announced at the beginning of the term. The relevant information is described at the Course Information Form for each course. Grades/success evalutions of courses are conducted according to the ESOGU-GER.

 

12. Graduation Requirements

         The PhD program consists of minimum of 21 credits for the students who are accepted with MSc degree, at least seven courses, a seminar course, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, specialization field courses and a thesis study. According to the ECTS regulations, minimum 60 ECTS credits of course work and 120 ECTS credit thesis study must be taken. The credits of the proficieny exam and the thesis proposal are both 30 ECTS . The required total credit is 240 ECTS.

     The PhD program is eight semesters, and the maximum completion time is twelve semesters. The letter grade of each course must be at least CB, and the CGPA must be at least 3.0/4.0.

    Students must succesfully complete their courses, pass the proficiency exam, defend the thesis proposal, and submit and succesfully defend at least three Thesis Progression Reports. To graduate from the program, the student must write their PhD dissertation according to the Thesis Writing Guide determined by the Graduate School and  succesfully defend in front of the jury.  .

15. Department / Program Opportunities

In our Aeronautical Engineering Department, there are still 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors, 2 Dr. There are 7 lecturers in total, including a lecturer, 1 lecturer and 1 research assistant. All of our faculty members work full time. . In addition to Aeronautical Engineering, full-time and part-time academic support is provided to our program from other departments such as Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and other institutions such as ESTÜ, TEI/TUSAŞ, 1st AIR MAINTENANCE FACTORY DIRECTORATE.

There are 5 classes in various sizes in our department. All of our current classrooms have a projection system. These classrooms are mostly used for undergraduate courses, and the meeting room with classrooms A-110 (60 people), B418 (45 people) and B 419 (45 people) are used for graduate courses.

Since our Department is an interdisciplinary program, laboratory facilities of both Aeronautical Engineering and other related engineering departments are utilized.
